Putin: 'Rearming Georgia by U.S. Huge Mistake'
Russia’s PM Vladimir Putin said on February 22, that “rearming” Georgia by the United States was “a huge mistake” and Moscow was “constantly raising this issue” with Washington. At a meeting with the Russian army commanders at a military base in Alabino near Moscow, Putin was asked by a commander of the Russian military base deployed in breakaway South Ossetia about “media reports that an agreement has been reached during the U.S.-Georgia summit in Washington about large-scale supply of arms to Georgia.”
Abkhaz Official: 'We don't Tend to Link Ankvab Attack to Tbilisi'
The President was obviously a target of this attack. This is sixth attack against him as far as I remember, but we do not tend to attribute it to Georgia,” Kristian Bzhania, the Abkhaz leader’s spokesman, told Itar-Tass news agency. Ankvab survived unharmed after his motorcade heading from Gudauta to the breakaway region’s capital Sokhumi was attacked by a roadside bomb, followed by fire from machine-gun and grenade launcher on Wednesday morning.

Neither Washington nor Brussels nor other political center will draft laws for us; nobody will explore possible results of badly drafted laws. So, Georgian organizations are entitled to do it. Simultaneously, we actively cooperate with international organizations. We met representatives of embassies, missions of various international organizations. We provide them with a lot of information in order to obtain their support for the initiated draft-law. So, if amendments are introduced, it will be result of two-sided effort - I mean activities of the international community and Georgian civil society
Moscow Condemns Attempt on Abkhaz Leader's Life
Moscow said it was “concerned” about the assassination attempt on Abkhaz leader Alexander Ankvab, condemning it as an attempt to destabilize situation ahead of theparliamentary elections in the breakaway region planned for March 10. “Obviously it is an attempt to destabilize the situation in the republic ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website on February 22.
Abkhaz Leader's Convoy Attacked
Abkhaz leader Alexander Ankvab survived assassination attempt early on February 22, after an attack on his convoy on the road between Gudauta to Sokhumi, Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported. Abkhaz leader sustained no injuries, according to this report, but at least two of his bodyguards were wounded, one of which died in a hospital later.
Afghan Koran burning at Bagram sparks fresh protests
At least one person has been killed and 20 injured in Afghanistan in the second day of protests over the burning of copies of the Koran. There were demonstrations in Kabul and the eastern city of Jalalabad. On Tuesday, the US commander in Afghanistan, Gen John Allen, apologised after Korans were "inadvertently" put in an incinerator at Bagram airbase.
Valeri Gelbakhiani Released on Bail
Tbilisi Civil court judge Badri Shonia partially satisfied the mediation of the defendants of Valeri Gelbakhiani to release him on bail . Lawyer Shalva Khatchapuridze demanded to impose GEL 30 000 bail, though the judge granted Gel 50 000 bail. The prosecutor declare that Valeri Gelbkhiani hindered investigation and didn't turn up in court, though the judge considered the health condition of Valeri Gelbakhiani and also the fact that he appeared in investigation.
Arms Cache in Libyan Embassy in Greece
Greek police say Libyan embassy officials in Athens have handed over a large weapons and explosives cache, following instructions from the Libyan government - Associated Press reports . A police statement says the cache included 30 handguns, two submachineguns, 15 kilograms of plastic explosives, detonators, two hand grenades and more than 1,200 rounds of ammunition for various types of firearms.

The topic of discussion was to simplify the rule of registering parties, change the system of State Duma elections and distribution of authority of governors.
Georgians in Sokhumi Port Ask for Immediate Help
“The owner of the ship, in Istanbul and the consulate, Laura Chaduneli also know about it, but no one does anything. They say that on Saturday they will changes us. It’s impossible to repaire the ship. No one who has seen the ship will come here. Nobody knows whether we’ll survive till Monday”, Giorgi Sapanadze said.

Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs has released a statement with regard to the detention of Valeri Gelbakhiani . ‘On January 22, 2008 Valeri Gelbakhiani was held criminal responsibility as an accused for a crime envisaged by the article 315 I part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
